Build Teams at Crieff Hydro this Summer

Gather up your colleagues and give them a day that catapults them right out of the ordinary. Here at Crieff Hydro we have put together a number of different packages for you and your colleagues to enjoy on a well deserved day away from the office! It could be thinking caps on in the morning as you get down to business in one of our flexible, newly refurbished function spaces, then safety helmets on in the afternoon, as you enjoy your choice of one of our tremendous activities.

summer team building at crieff hydro

Pick from:

Hydro Challenge – six tests of motivation, teamwork and general mettle, from “bomb” diffusion to sky archery hits (think clay pigeon shooting but with foam disks and arrows)

Team Special Ops – codename: serious fun for 12-200 people. Your team will have to navigate, shoot (rifles and lasers), and drive off-road to complete their mission

Active Minds Challenge – from the perfectly puzzling to the positively perplexing, tailor your challenge (or let us do it for you) from a menu of 30 individual challenges. Designed to send your grey matter into overdrive (and be jolly good fun too)

Mini Highland Games – a classic choice. Nothing says “Scotland” like a man in a skirt flinging a big log. We can’t say the same for haggis hurling or sumo suits – but whatever you choose, it’s a great way to get teams working together

All of this from just £65.00 per person throughout May – September.

You’ll enjoy:

  • Arrival tea, coffee and bacon (or vegetarian) roll
  • Morning meeting room complete with free Wi-Fi, projector, screen and stationery, mineral water, cordials, confectionary and fresh fruit
  • 2 course lunch
  • Afternoon of activities

Other add-ons to your team-building day include:

  • Enjoy an evening BBQ and overnight stay from only £99

Choose to round off your day with a BBQ and an overnight stay in one of our hotel rooms. That way, you’ll enjoy a full Scottish breakfast the next morning, as well as full access to our leisure pool and gym.

  • Add an evening BBQ from just £15 per person

When the working day is done, an evening BBQ is the ideal time for your guests to unwind and talk over the day’s events. Let our chefs put together a mouthwatering BBQ to satisfy hungry delegates before they head home.

  • We can even pick you up from your office…

Just an hour from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Dundee, we’re centrally located and easy to reach. And if you’d like us to arrange transport from the local train or bus station, or even from your office, just let us know and we’ll get on the case.

Engagement at Crieff Hydro Hotel

Jennifer from our events team is used to writing proposals – so it was a bit of a surprise to receive one herself over the weekend.

Engagement at Crieff Hydro Hotel

We were delighted to recruit Jennifer in November, strengthening our dedicated Conference and Events Team.

Jennifer graduated with BA (Hons) Hospitality in Event Management from Glasgow Caledonian University and started her career as a Cultural Representative at Epcot, Walt Disney World. She has worked in event sales for four years, both with the Hilton Group and most recently with West Park Conference Centre in Dundee. Jennifer also comes to us with a 4th Kup in Korean Kickboxing (yikes…).

Surviving a Business Dinner

Planning to whisk a client or prospective business contact away for a corporate dinner? No idea how to behave? Worried you might blow it? Fear not, we have a team of meeting and events experts here at Crieff Hydro who have seen it all. Here are their tips for surviving the strangest type of meeting; the intimate corporate dinner.

Watch what you eat and drink

Business and Corporate Dining

Whether you want to impress clients, engage in team-building activites or celebrate a success, Crieff Hydro is perfect for all your corporate events.

Business dinners are hard enough without having to worry about getting spinach in your teeth, negotiating a lobster or eating spaghetti elegantly, so order wisely. Food can be a great ice-breaker and a talking point as well, so it’s always a good idea to swot up a little on the restaurant you’re going to.

You should feel relaxed, so feel free to have a few drinks if you like. But keep a clear head and don’t be afraid to hold back on the booze if you start to feel a little too tipsy.

The events team at Crieff Hydro are more than happy to work with you to create a bespoke menu for your corporate dinner, based on your guests’ preferences.

Ask questions

If you’re nervous, listen more than you speak. People love to talk about themselves and feel like they are the most fascinating person in the world. Asking leading questions and doing lots of nodding will endear you to your dinner guests and you’ll probably find out a lot of very useful information about them!

Silence is golden

If the purpose of the meeting is to wrangle information out of somebody, don’t blow it by talking too much at key moments. Say nothing and allow the other person to rush to fill the awkward silence, no doubt revealing too much or back-peddling on what they’ve just offered you.

Don’t talk shop the whole time

It’s so true: people buy from people. The most savvy networkers who seem to charm everyone they meet never start any business conversation talking about business. They’ll spend 70% of the meeting asking about the other person’s family, talking about the weather or relaying a funny anecdote they’ve stashed up their sleeve. They make other people feel comfortable and find common ground before they even think of broaching the subject of work.

Nina Zagat — who co-founded the Zagat Survey restaurant guides and is an expert in dining with business prospects— thinks you should think of a business dinner like a sandwich: start with non-business chit chat, briefly go over the business issues you need to cover and finish with light conversation again. She never talks shop over dessert.

If you’ve taken your party to Crieff Hydro, it’s an excellent way to get to know them in a neutral environment that’s slightly removed from the corporate environment you’ve come from, so make the most of it.

Crieff Hydro relaunches conference package with £260,000 investment

Crieff Hydro Meeting Rooms

Leading Scottish independent hotel, Crieff Hydro, has boosted an already impressiverange of conference facilities with a £260,000 investment in meeting rooms and WiFi technology throughout the property.

In a climate where time is money and budgets are constrained, ritual meetings are often replaced by virtual meetings through telephone and video conferences – but at what price overall? Undoubtedly the pace of commercial life is not helped by unnecessary meetings, but sometimes there is no substitute for face-to-face engagement.

This is never more so than in the areas of team building and creative thinking, both of which aid productivity and deliver untold benefits in terms of positive corporate culture and staff retention.

Recognising this, Crieff Hydro’s latest meeting rooms have been designed specifically as ergonomic spaces to encourage clients to think outside the box. Traditional meets modern in the overall design, the latest high-tech equipment makes light work of clever presentations and, in an effort to overcome the dreaded ‘graveyard slot’ after lunch, skilled instructors come as part of the package to run activator sessions designed to stimulate minds and bodies and fire delegates up.

At the same time, this established hotel set in the glorious Perthshire countryside has invested a mighty £60,000 in first-class WiFi facilities throughout the property, enabling superfast broadband and efficient plug and play technology for the ultimate connectivity.

Crieff Hydro Meeting Rooms

Commenting on the hotel’s investment in new facilities, Chief Executive Stephen Leckie, said: “In a highly competitive marketplace, investment is crucial to stay ahead of the game. In this online age, people not only expect, but demand, free WiFi access and those venues who fail to invest in meeting that demand, ultimately risk losing their competitive edge. Like many other parts of Scotland away from the cities, Crieff does not get broadband speed. So we have had to make a big investment to bring a fast “pipe” in from Perth. We have taken that a step further by introducing plug and play capability which means that presentations can be beamed direct to a screen from a laptop without trailing wires and the need for complex kit.

“Increasingly aspirations of meeting planners are high and we know that buyers are constantly looking for something a bit different. Not everyone is looking for facelesshotel rooms or purpose-built conference centres and we believe that what weoffer at Crieff Hydro is a unique package of flexible spaces to ensure thatmeetings are interesting, stimulating and alive. Add to that our own onsite teambuilding centre which helps to set the venue apart from others and create a unique experience.

Designed by the internationally renowned design team at Graven Images in Glasgow, the creative minds behind boutique properties such as Hotel Missoni in Edinburgh and Blythswood Square in Glasgow, Crieff Hydro’s spaces offer dramatic backdrops, cleverly hidden high-tech and sumptuous contemporary comfort.

In the latest meeting rooms, original features have been blended with specially created artworks in the form of collages with layers of historical references from the hotel’s history. Neutral tones sprinkled with flashes of accent colours combine with a scaled-up geometric check carpet to provide a dramatic contemporary twist; mirrors and etched glass give a sense of space and light and the flexible spaces offer a variety of configurations with break-out and reception areas.

Crieff Hydro is set in a lush 900 acre estate in the Perthshire countryside with no less than 60 on-site activities including off-road driving and quad bike courses, horse riding, archery, laserquest, climbing, off-road Segway tours, a Victorian Spa and swimming pool and leisure club.

The hotel now has twelve meeting and conference spaces that can cater for events from two to 500. These include: the state of the art Melville Hall with capacity for up to 500; the venue’s highes space, the Tower Room which can take 8 people boardroom-style; the Loggia sun room which is perfect for receptions up to eighty people; and now the introduction of two innovative new meetingrooms designed with productivity in mind.
